Introduction

Associate Professor, Dr. Richard Knuth, oversees the educational leadership program at UWT. Dr. Knuth is a tenured, full-time faculty member who has taught at UWT since 2001 and whose expertise is in Educational Leadership and Administration. Dr. Knuth is a former central office administrator of the Tukwila and University Place School districts and a former high school principal in the Kent and University Place School districts.

His best known publication is "The Essential Leadership Model" published in Bulletin: Journal of the National Association of Secondary School Principals 90 (1), 4-18.

In addition to numerous in-state presentations, Dr. Knuth has made presentations at the national conferences of the American Association of School Administrators, the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the National Council of Professors of Educational Administration, and the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.

Dr. Knuth received the UWT Distinguished Teaching Award in 2008. Prior to coming to UWT he received the Washington State Sharon Christa McAuliffe Award for Excellence (2001), the Washington State PTSA Outstanding Educator Award (2001) and South Puget Sound High School Principal of the Year (2001).

He was principal of Curtis High School in 1999 when it was awarded the National Award of Excellence (Blue Ribbon Award) by United States Department of Education.
