As the Head of Collections and Scholarship, I’m responsible for Tacoma library’s print and digital collections program, allocating funds, identifying resources for purchase, assessing continued usage, advising subject librarians, and ensuring the overall health of the collection, in alignment with our collection development guidelines. I liaise with partners in the UW Libraries and advocate for Tacoma’s priorities in tri-campus discussions, as well as Tacoma’s collection within UW’s institutional repository, ResearchWorks. Furthermore, I support students, faculty, and staff in the SIAS Department of Social Sciences, specifically those teaching and/or conducting research in economics, philosophy, political science, human rights, law, and religion.

I can help students:

• Brainstorm and develop a research topic
• Identify relevant databases and the most effective search strategies 
• Find, access, save, and cite your sources
• Stay organized using bibliographic management software like Zotero
• Answer questions about other library resources and services

I can help faculty and staff:

• Navigate and access UW’s diverse collections and identify new resources that may meet emerging needs
• Understand your intellectual property rights and Open Access options
• Share you and your students’ scholarly work, including via UW’s institutional repository, ResearchWorks
• Integrate information literacy and library collections into your courses and assignments
• Build your students’ research and critical thinking skills via an in-class workshop and/or asynchronous learning activities
• Target the databases, collections, and search strategies relevant to their research needs
• Identify and purchase relevant books and other materials to support your course(s) and/or discipline
