Introduction

June S. Lowenberg's Ph.D. in Sociology is from University of California, San Diego, while her Nursing degrees were from U.C. San Francisco and U.C.L.A. Her scholarly interests include the social construction of health and illness (particularly responsibility for health and illness and the nurse-patient relationship); interpretive methodology; and loss, death, and grief. Caring and Responsibility: The Crossroads Between Holistic Practice and Traditional Medicine (University of Pennsylvania, 1989 and 1992) reflects many of these concerns.
