Akane was born and raised in a small coastal town in Japan, where her parents' involvement in Sister Cities Exchanges sparked her interest in international connections. That early exposure led her to the U.S. as an international student- an experience that continues to shape her work today.
She has been part of UW Tacoma community since 2014. Prior to that, she spent six years serving international students at Pacific Lutheran University. Akane is dedicated to enhancing the international student and scholar experience, fostering sense of belonging, and building bridges across cultures.
