Introduction

Dr. Backonja teaches and conducts research in health informatics. Her areas of focus are supporting health equity and engaging with individuals in the community in the design of informatics solutions. She is currently an Alliance for Nursing Informatics Emerging Leader and working on several informatics research projects to support health equity and community-based informatics solutions.

Dr. Backonja's postdoctoral research involves a National Library of Medicine Biomedical Informatics Postdoctoral Fellowship from the University of Washington School of Medicine, Department of Biomedical Informatics & Medical Informatics.
