Introduction

Elizabeth Rangel is the Advisor, Recruitment, Retention Specialist for the School of Education at the University of Washington Tacoma. She is a first generation, biracial Latina that has worked with education since she was a student at Central Washington University. She is currently pursuing her Master Degree in Higher Education through Central Washington University.

Prior to joining the University of Washington Tacoma, she worked for Bellevue College and Green River College in the Office of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion. Prior to her time with Bellevue and Green River, she was an admission advisor and recruiter for Highline College. Before working in the community college system, she held various positions working with the K-12 system in both the Federal Way Public School District and the Franklin Pierce School District. She has had the privilege to worked with the GEAR UP grant, 21st Century Grant, and the South Pierce County Boys and Girls Club.

As a student who directly experienced various obstacles in education, Elizabeth Rangel is deeply committed to widely promoting diversity, equity, social justice, and inclusion. During her time, under the SBCTC system, she was able to graduate from the Social Justice Leadership Institute cohort 2020. She has been able to be a part of the Faculty & Staff of Color Conference Committee helping to provide professional development for Staff and Faculty of Color across the state. Her work has consisted of working with programs, committees, and taskforces that work provide equity in education. She has worked with the Washington State Passport Leadership Team, the Highline DREAMers Taskforce, the Black and Brown Male Summit, Y.E.L.L., and many others.
