Introduction
Dr. Thillainathan Logenthiran (Logan) is a Faculty member in Electrical Power Engineering at the University of Washington Tacoma, United States. Prior to his current position, he served as an Assistant Professor at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Newcastle University (United Kingdom) for five years, and as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Strathclyde, United Kingdom. In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Logenthiran is a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka.
During his tenure at Newcastle University, Dr. Logenthiran held key leadership positions, including Degree Program Director for the Master’s program in Electrical Power Engineering, and Research Lead for the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), United Kingdom.
Dr. Logenthiran’s contributions to the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Singapore Chapter are noteworthy, where he served as Chairman in 2018 and Treasurer in 2016–17. He serves as an executive member of the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Seattle Chapter. His accolades include the first prize in the Siemens Smart Grid Innovation Contest and a Newcastle Teaching Award.
With a robust research portfolio, Dr. Logenthiran focuses on smart grids, microgrids, renewable energy resources, and the integration of computational intelligence techniques for the advancement of modern power systems. His work has been widely recognized, with over 100 publications in international peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and conference papers.
In addition to his academic achievements, Dr. Logenthiran has extensive industrial experience as an Electrical Consultant in Singapore, where he completed several projects in collaboration with Singapore Utilities and the Oil & Gas industry.
