Introduction

I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in forensic psychology from Seattle Pacific University. I completed my internship at Utah State Hospital as the Forensic Psychology Intern. My forensic experience has included conducting adult and adolescent competency to stand trial evaluations and mental state evaluations for Washington and Utah courts. Additionally, I have clinical experience treating serious and persistent mental illness with incarcerated adolescents as well as adult inpatient hospital populations. More specifically, I am trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Borderline Personality Disorder.

I started at University of Washington Tacoma as a Full-Time lecturer in the Fall of 2012. I currently teach for the psychology major in the Division of Social, Behavioral, and Human Sciences. Previously, I taught for the psychology department at Eastern Washington University at Bellevue College for three years. I have also taught as adjunct faculty for the doctoral program at Seattle Pacific University.

My research has primarily investigated predisposing and perpetuatung factors of adolescent substance use as well as treatment outcomes. I developed a manualized-based urge surfing treatment as aftercare for an evidence-based school intervention. I am especially interested in the effects of mindfulness.

Current Research

Based on my clinical experience as a forensic evaluator, my area of reserach has recently evolved into investigating factors that defense attorney's consider when making recommendations to their clients about negotiated pleas in both felony drug and criminal cases. 

I am also passionate about modeling the use of self-care practices to students which has prompted a new area of interest exmploring the role of self-care practices in undergraduate students. Ultimately, my team is looking at the activities that students participate in outside of the classroom and how those practices impact psychological well-being and academic success.

Teaching

Mission: To effectively and ethically teach students evidence-based information that helps them competently navigate their undergraduate experience and inspire authenticity in how they pursue their future passions while encouraging them to maintain self-care in daily living. 

Courses: Reserach Methods Sequence (TPSYCH 209 & 309), Test and Measurements, Chemical Dependency, Psychology of Superheroes, Personality Disorders, Personality Theory, Abnormal Psychology, and Social Psychology.

My academic service includes being an active member on the Executive Council for faculty assembly, curriculum development, leading a study abroad, hiring committees, peer and student mentorship, and faculty advisor to student lead organization.
