Emily Cilli-Turner


I received my doctorate in mathematics at the University of Illinois at Chicago in July 2013 and my research is focused on questions in undergraduate mathematics education.  My main research interest is investigating the thought processes of students in a transition to proof course and determining effective ways to teach students to prove in mathematics.  I am also interested in flipped classroom pedagogy and have studied students' attitudes and achievement in a flipped statistics course.  I am very excited to join the School of IAS at UW Tacoma because it is a tight-knit community of scholars and many resources are provided to help faculty become the best teachers they can be.  Additionally, I am excited about the new mathematics major and I look forward to contributing to the major and developing new courses to help our majors succeed and find careers.  When I am not working, I enjoy hiking, backpacking, biking and walking my dog.
