Lauren Pressley is the Director of the UW Tacoma library and an Associate Dean of University Libraries. She is responsible for strategic visioning, policy and program development, operations and personnel, and overall innovation and excellence in the UW Tacoma Library. She provides leadership for transformational and user-centered services; integrated educational and curricular programs; staff development at all levels; an inclusive environment that also prioritizes diversity; responsive collections and information resources; assessment; and marketing of services.

How I help students, faculty, staff, and community members:I meet with students, faculty, staff, and community members about how the library might help with their goals.I present to groups about the library, future directions for the library, and the larger evolving information environment.I facilitate advisory boards to ensure we have a strong understanding of community needs and interests.

Scholarly Interests

I work to help libraries, and those that work in them, adapt to new and emerging needs of our patrons. I strive to ensure that future generations will continue to see their library as a cultural cornerstone that provides information, resources, expertise, and spaces for local communities. I study, research, and write about:

  • integrating the library into formal and informal learning
  • demonstrating how design can make library services and spaces better
  • social media and transformative uses of technology
  • exploring and explaining how the evolving information environment changes our users' expectations and experience of the library
  • organizational change and staff support
